After more than 11 years working as a trustee for the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington (PVNC) Catholic District School Board, Kawartha Lakes Trustee Michelle Griepsma has moved out of the board’s jurisdiction and has resigned from her role.

Trillium Lakelands District School Board director Wes Hahn believes he can explain where an additional 500 students came from.

These students are are responsible for larger than expected class sizes, which has caused issues such as buses not picking up all students.

“Extra-curriculars are back,” Trillium Lakelands District School Board’s director of education, Wes Hahn said at the recent board meeting, but not all coaches and teams will be running.

“We will respect if staff feel uneasy or anxious about running teams again,” because of the pandemic, he said. “It is their voluntary right.”

Director of education for the Trillium Lakelands District School Board Wes Hahn said there are nearly 40 cases of COVID in TLDSB schools, with one case in Haliburton and 21 cases in Kawartha Lakes.

Pinnguaq’s Kawartha Lakes Makerspace will be filled with aspiring in-person and online coders and game designers this fall as they launch four after-school workshops, starting in October.

Trillium Lakelands District School Board senior staff, led by superintendents Tim Ellis and Tracy Hubbard, told trustees at their Sept. 14 regular board meeting that the board is dealing with a number of worrying issues.

Ontario’s students have returned to their classrooms this month after a long period of remote learning. As they make their way off school buses or cross the threshold of school foyers, few may pause to consider how their school got its name.
