It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Jeanie Mary Steele (Monaghan) at the Ottawa Heart Institute on July 8, 2026, at the age of ninety. Jeanie passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her parents, Patrick John Monaghan and Ethel (Daft), her sister Kathleen, her two brothers, Denis and Derek, her son Michael, and her husband of 62 years, Reginald Thomas William Steele. She is survived by her brothers, John and David (Lilly) and her sisters, Ethel and Sheila (Gilles). She will be forever loved and remembered by her daughters Mary (Alexander), Wendy (Terry) and her son Brian (Rhonda); her grandchildren Brandy (Glenn), Ryan (Dayna), Michael, Ian, Robert (Devon), Christopher (Nicole); her treasured great grandchildren, Lauren (Landon), Maddix, Grayson, Remington, Oliver, Olivia and Abigail and her many nieces, nephews and friends.

Jeanie had a long list of hobbies, including sewing, needle work, embroidery, reading, knitting, quilting, doing puzzles, she also loved spending time outdoors camping, canoeing, gardening, fishing, and ATVing. She especially enjoyed sharing these hobbies with her loved ones. She was very community minded, she and Reg ran the ballpark in Cameron for several years, and were able to provide children with free baseball. She also volunteered at the Kawartha Mission, helping to sort and pack clothes and other items to be sent to communities in need.

Jeanie loved her family deeply. She was always supportive and willing and ready to give her family a hand. She touched many lives along the way, and will be missed deeply by her family and friends.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute for the exceptional care they provided.

A Celebration of Jeanie's Life will be held on Saturday August 22, 2026 at the Mackey Funeral Home from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. with words of remembrance at 3:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute would be appreciated by the family, and can be made online, or by cheque through the funeral home.
