100 Men of Kawartha Lakes awards $17,000 to local charities
100 Men of Kawartha Lakes is inviting new members to join its next quarterly meeting on Friday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. at the Fenelon Falls Legion.
The announcement follows a September meeting held at the Flato Academy Theatre, where members ate, mingled, and voted. The group welcomed new members to bring total membership to 173, and heard presentations from two local charities.
Members voted to award the meeting’s top donation of $13,000 to Camp Kirk, plus $2,500 to the Community Fund of Fenelon Falls.
“Since 2018, we have donated over $364,000 to local charities in the Kawartha Lakes,” said Brad Campkin in a press release. “100 Men of Kawartha Lakes turns each individual’s $100 into a collective donation of over $17,000 at each meeting.”
Membership now stands at 173 with the group’s goal set at 200 members. Each member donates $102 per quarterly meeting, with donations administered through the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes.
The group also announced progress on a new Forever Fund — a permanent investment fund being created under 100 Men of Kawartha Lakes at the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes. A recent member survey resulted in the majority voting yes for creating the fund.
Quarterly charitable giving will remain separate from the fund, and a working group is now developing the details.
“This group brings together a diverse group of men from across the Kawartha Lakes — men who don’t always have the time to give back to their community, but can give $100 knowing it goes directly back to local registered charities,” said Campkin. “The simplicity of it is what makes it work.”
