Fire ravages home on Victoria Street in Lindsay

A Victoria Avenue North home, between Pottinger and Elgin Streets in Lindsay, caught fire shortly after midnight on Aug. 8.

According to an eyewitness who asked not to be named, the homeowners were trapped in their backyard with the fire blocking their street exit; a tall chain‑link fence enclosed the rear of the property, while firefighters fought the fire from the street.

Neighbours got two ladders to evacuate the homeowners over the back fence to safety in a neighbour’s yard on Elgin Street.

The fire began in the home’s carport-garage area.

Security camera footage shows embers being thrown into the night sky, while a Lindsay pumper passes through the intersection of Victoria and Elgin on the right.
