Four people charged under the Reopening Ontario Act

On Oct. 31, members of the Kawartha Lakes Police Service responded to reports of a Dodge Ram pickup truck that struck a parked vehicle on Albert Street North before fleeing the area.

The vehicle, which sustained significant damage during the collision, was observed driving on a damaged wheel and producing sparks as it travelled through the city. Officers located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop; however, the driver failed to stop for police.

Police safely contained the vehicle after it struck a marked police cruiser. Through investigation, officers determined the driver was impaired and arrested the individual, who was dressed in a gorilla costume at the time of the incident.

The vehicle was towed and impounded; the driver’s license was suspended, and the accused was charged and released with a future court date.
