Two vehicle collision leads to impaired driving charge

Members from the City of Kawartha Lakes (CKL) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a reported collision on Brechin Road in Carden Township which led to an individual being arrested for impaired driving.

On Sunday, Sept. 6, at approximately 8 p.m., officers were dispatched to a collision on Brechin Road. Upon arrival, officers found fire already on scene and attending to involved parties in the first vehicle. The officer was directed towards a second vehicle where two people were sitting close by. The officer approached the vehicle where an individual identified themselves as the driver. While speaking with the driver, the officer determined them to be under the influence of alcohol. A demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD) was made, and the results of the test led to the arrest of the driver.

Isaac Wiedlich, 22, of Tottenham, was arrested and charged with;

• Operation while impaired

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay at a later date. The driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol or drugs. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.
